So it begins.
For months, Yeezy has been teasing details of the upcoming mixtape release under his G.O.O.D Music label, to feature the likes of Frank Ocean, John Legend, Pusha T and Ye himself. Today, Pusha Tweeted that the first track, ‘Mercy,’ would be released tomorrow (Good Friday – geddit?), and would feature himself, Big Sean and Ye.
While the world was mentally girding its figurative loins for some new Kanye, Mr West went right on ahead and burst his own bubble with an even bigger bubble; literally minutes ago, Kanye dropped ‘Thera Flu,’ his first solo work in ages since spending the past few years doing the ‘Watch The Throne’ thing with Jay-Z.
It sounds like it came from the ‘WTT’ sessions, having a groove and flow really reminiscent of ‘Niggas In Paris’; but it’s a lot darker, seedier, and slower than ‘Niggas,’ with a dirtier vibe. It’s pretty awesome.
What’s really interesting however, is how the track dropped from nowhere and has spread like wildfire online. It wasn’t posted on Kanye’s website, or even on his Twitter; it just filtered out from one small source (probably the producer, or some small blog) and with only minutes online, it has already racked up almost 130,000 plays on this Soundcoud page alone.
Get excited. ‘Mercy’ drops tomorrow, apparently.
