OK so it’s not the full GnR reunion we’ve all been craving… but it’s pretty damn awesome.
Earlier this year, Guns N Roses were announced among several acts to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Generally, the induction ceremony involves a live performances from the inductees, sparking furious rumour of a long-awaited and oft-rumoured reunion of the original lineup (Axl, Slash, Izzy, Duff and Steven) live on stage.
After much sniping at one another in the press, frontman Axl confirmed (in an exceedingly long and pompous statement) that he would not be attending the ceremony. So of course, Slash, Duff and Steven went along and performed anyway… and it was fucking amazing.
Joined by Myles Kennedy (frontman of Alter Bridge, and vocalist for Slash’s solo project) and previous Guns members Gilby Clarke and Matt Sorum, the everyone-except-Axl incarnation of the Gunners blasted through ‘Paradise City,’ ‘Mr. Brownstone’ and an absolutely mind-blowing rendition of ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine.’
Watch some shaky fan footage below, and try to deny that you get shivers down your spine during Slash’s solo in ‘Sweet Child.’
